El Hierro, une île durable

En juin 2014, El Hierro, la plus petite ile de l'archipel Canarien, a inaugure sa centrale hydro-eolienne. Grâce a cette infrastructure, elle est en passe de devenir la premiere ile au monde 100 % autonome en energie grâce aux energies renouvelables // Grâce a la nouvelle centrale hydro-eolienne (station de pompage en arriere), El Hierro va pouvoir progressivement se passer de sa centrale a petrole (premier plan). Pour alimenter celle-ci, il fallait amener par bateau l'equivalent de 40 000 barils de fioul lourd chaque annee. L'ancienne centrale ne sera cependant pas demantelee : l'ile n'est pas reliee au reseau d'electricite continental par des câbles sous-marins, et, en cas d'arret total des vents - hautement improbable - ou de panne a la nouvelle centrale, il faudra continuer a alimenter en electricite des bâtiments essentiels, comme l'hopital...---..In June 2014, El Hierro, the smallest of the Canary Islands, has inaugurated its wind farm and hydropower plant. The island is on its way to become the first island in the World to use only renewable energies to support the needs for electricity and water of its inhabitants // Up to 2014, a dirty oil plant (foreground) used to support the needs of electricity of the inhabitants. It's very polluting : every year it consumes the equivalent of 40,000 barrels of oil. These are shipped by boat going back and forth every week between El Hierro and the continent. Thanks to the new hydrowind central (pumping station in the background), the old central will be replaced. But it will never be stopped totally: the island is so isolated that there's no other way to get electricity if the windmills farm comes to break down. Therefore the oil central will be used as an emergency support for the hospital, which can't afford any power shortage.
